Monday, February 6 – 1 Samuel 1:27
Tuesday, February 7 – 2 Samuel 5:10
Wednesday, February 8 – 2 Samuel 6:5
Thursday, February 9 – 2 Samuel 7:22
Friday, February 10 – 2 Samuel 7:28
Saturday, February 11 – 2 Samuel 8:15
Bible Reading Guide
The book of 2 Samuel continues the story of David. The book opens with the report of the death of King Saul and his son Jonathan and the rise of David as king of Israel. At first, David became king over the tribe of Judah. For seven years David reigned over Judah. After that David reigned over all of Israel for another thirty three years. During the narrative of 2 Samuel we read about both victories and turmoil. In the midst of the book, David’s sin with Bathsheba reveals the consequence of sinful choices. Though God allowed David to live and reign after his sin, the strife and turmoil within the family of David is a sober reminder of the effects of sin.
Questions for Reflection and Response
- Chapter 1 contains David’s lament over the death of Saul and Jonathan. In addition, David shows kindness to the household of Jonathan in Chapter 9. What does his lament in Chapter 1 and his kindness in Chapter 6 reveal about the heart of David?
- Is there anyone in your life that God wants you to show kindness toward that you and you are finding it difficult to do so? Consider the kindness we have received from God and ask God to help you to reflect that kindness toward others.
- Chapter 6 describes the movement of the ark of God to Jerusalem. Notice the description of the celebration over the movement of the ark (also the death of Uzzah who touched the ark irreverently). What is your level of celebration over the presence of God in your life?
Prayer
Local Prayer Focus
Pray for our church fellowship dinner this Wednesday night. Gathering together and cultivating relationships in our church family is an important part of our mission as a church. This is an excellent opportunity to strengthen your relationship with others and connect with people you do not have an opportunity to meet on Sunday mornings. Be in prayer for this special event.
Global Prayer Focus
People for Care and Learning (www.peopleforcare.org) has launched a new website (www.buildacity.org) that highlights their new project in Cambodia. The aim is to build an entire city in Cambodia, complete with homes, recreational space, schools and infrastructure. People for Care and Learning is a group with roots in the Church of God and directed by Dr. Fred Garmon, former pastor of Heritage Fellowship. Please be in prayer for this project.

DEVOTIONAL WRITING BY PASTOR PAUL

|
| Devotional Reading - Tuesday, November 01, 2011 Find Yourself in the Story - The narrative is among the most compelling in the New Testament. A woman is caught in sin and brought to Jesus. In an attempt to draw Jesus into controversy, her accusers ask for His ruling on the woman's fate. Should she die? This dramatic scene provides an excellent backdrop for introspection. Download a personal devotional guide written by Pastor Paul Metler that is based upon the events recorded in John 8:1-11.
